Amazon.com’s plans to open its HQ2 in Virginia got the support of local officials who approved a financial package valued at $51 million over the weekend. According to NBC News , the five-member Arlington County Board voted unanimously to approve the financial incentives despite some opposition to the package.

Walmart , the world’s biggest retailer, is gearing up to bring on 2,000 technology professionals during 2019 to support its operations in stores and online. Bloomberg , citing comments Walmart CTO Jeremy King made in a Bloomberg TV interview, said the hiring would increase the retailer’s IT staff by more than one fourth.

The company’s next headquarters is being built in Arlington, Virginia. Amazon, for its part, started working in India in 2004, but retail endeavors began in earnest in 2013. Amazon was going to build a huge new headquarters in New York, but eventually decided against it, due to local opposition and despite tax breaks.
