Twenty years ago there were 14,000 FDIC-insured financial institutions. It reminds me of Louisiana Senator Russell Long''s quip in the 1950''s. For example, if you hold branch managers accountable to continuously improve their deposit spreads, compare them to the average and top quartile deposit spreads of all of your branches.
