It can be a major challenge to not want to quit after a bad day. Nastia Liukin, five time Olympic medalist in gymnastics, commentator and entrepreneur, shared first hand her experience with this issue during a keynote address at the ATMIA conference held from Feb. 8 to 10 in Orlando Florida.

Immediately after getting into her first Olympic Team, Liukin wanted to quit due to the severe pressure and stress. Thankfully she was able to remember her Mother's "golden piece of advice: you can never quit on a bad day."

Liukin encouraged the audience to remember why they started doing something they enjoy in the first place when they have a bad day.

"It's passion, it's love, trying to achieve that goal. Go back to why did I start this?" Liukin said.

She also shared a story from when she entered the Olympic village for the 2008 Beijing Olympics where she saw a poster with her image and the word "destiny" on it..

Although she was able to enjoy a successful career in gymnastics, when she tried to join the Olympics again in 2012, she experienced one of the most embarrassing and inspirational moments of her life. During her uneven bar routine during the Olympic trials, she fell "flat on her face."

Although she was mortified by this, she got back up and finished her routine and received her first standing ovation from 20,000 audience members.

It was there that she realized she could never be defined by any moment whether it be a gold medal or falling flat on her face.

So, the next time you feel like quitting whether it be in the ATM industry, banking or any market, consider the advice of Liukin: "never quit on a bad day."
