Alexa Makes Her Way North (To Canada)

Amazon’s line of Echo speakers powered by Alexa, its digital voice assistant, has made its way to Canada.

First spotted by TechCrunch, the Echo Dot and the Echo Plus are on sale in Canada as of Wednesday (Nov. 15). The Dot is selling for $49.99 for a limited period, while the Echo is going for $99.99. The devices are usually priced at $69.99 and $129.99, respectively. Amazon is also selling the Plus for $169.99 in Canada, reduced from the normal price of $199.99.

According to the report, Amazon also rolled out a dedicated store for online smart home devices in Canada, where consumers can get access to Amazon Prime Music. While many Canadians are already using Alexa and the Echo, purchasing them from U.S. retailers, they can now obtain them domestically. The devices are currently on sale currently but won’t ship until December.

The Canada launch comes as Amazon is pushing its Echo devices in the U.S. as well. Earlier in November, Whole Foods Market and Amazon announced that customers can now shop for Amazon devices at more than 199 Whole Foods retail locations. In a press release, the companies said a wide range of Amazon products will be available to purchase just in time for the holiday shopping season, including the all-new Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Fire TV, Kindle eReaders and Fire tablets, among others.

What’s more, the companies announced that Amazon pop-up shops will open at Whole Foods Market stores in Chicago, Illinois and Rochester Hills, Michigan, on Nov. 13; Davie, Florida and Pasadena, California on Nov. 14; and the new Union Station store in Denver, Colorado on Nov. 15. At the staffed pop-up stores, customers will be able to try out Amazon devices and learn about services, like Prime, and unique content on Prime Video.

Shoppers will also be able to take advantage of Black Friday sales. Starting the week leading up to Black Friday, Amazon is offering a variety of deals, including $20 off the Echo Dot, $20 off the all-new Amazon Echo, $30 off the new Echo Plus, $30 off Kindle Paperwhite, $20 off the new Amazon Cloud Cam, $20 off the Fire 7 tablet and $30 off the Fire HD 8 tablet.
