Daniel D. Robb, CEO of the $138 million-asset Jonesburg State Bank in Missouri, will chair the board. Robb began his career as a bank teller in 1985 before rising to chair of the Missouri Bankers Association in 2015. He has chaired the ABA's government relations council and served on the group's community bankers council.

Robb takes the helm from A. Scott Anderson, CEO of Salt Lake City-based Zions Bank since 1998. As chair last year, Anderson encouraged fellow bankers to get involved in advocacy at all levels of government. During his time as chair, Anderson helped the ABA lobby successfully against proposed legislation that would have required banks to report customer account flows to the Internal Revenue Service. Anderson will serve on the ABA's board in the coming year.

Robb's term at the Washington-based lobbying group begins at a time when banks are enjoying loan growth across business lines and record-low losses, but a looming recession could undermine those positive trends. Banks also face the renewed threat of increased regulation, especially at institutions with more than $250 billion of assets.

Julieann M. Thurlow, CEO of Reading Cooperative Bank in Massachusetts, was chosen as chairman-elect at the ABA's annual conference, held in Austin, Texas. John C. Asbury of Atlantic Union Bancshares in Richmond, Virginia, was elected vice chair, and Carissa Rodeheaver, CEO of First United Bank & Trust in Oakland, Maryland, will serve as treasurer.

The newly elected officers and board members "will play an essential role in leading ABA's work on behalf of American banks over the next year," ABA President and CEO Rob Nichols said in a statement. Nichols also serves as an ABA officer.

The American Bankers Association's 26 board members for 2022-23 include:

  • Jennifer Piepszak, co-CEO of consumer and community banking at JPMorgan Chase.
  • Ira Robbins, CEO of Valley National Bank in Wayne, New Jersey.
  • Kevin Sabin, CEO of Arvest Bank in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
