Venmo , the digital money transfer service owned by PayPal , suffered payments fraud earlier in 2018 that played a role in the company posting losses that were higher than forecasted for the first quarter of this year. The Wall Street Journal , citing internal documents it reviewed, reported that for the first three months of 2018 Venmo had operating losses of around $40 million, which was close to 40 percent bigger than what the company had planned for.

Overstock is gearing up to sell its retail business, with a deal taking place in the next few months as it focuses solely on its blockchain initiatives. CNBC , citing comments Overstock chief executive Patrick Byrne made in an interview with the Wall Street Journal , reported the sale could happen as early as February. Money laundering took on a new meaning this past week after Dutch police arrested a man who had hidden $400,000 in cash inside the drum of a washing machine. According to a report in CNN , Dutch police were conducting a raid for unregistered residents in western Amsterdam and found the money in the washing machine. The man present in the home was arrested on suspicion of money laundering , noted CNN.

Shopping comparison website operators sent a letter to the European Union’s Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager late last week contending that Google isn’t complying with a ruling by the EU in regards to how it should display shopping services. According to a report in CNET citing the open letter, the shopping comparison website rivals contend the auction-based system for deciding which shopping services are on display hasn’t fixed the issues.
