NPCI International Payments (NIPL), the international arm of National Payment Corporation of India and the Royal Monetary Authority (RMA) of Bhutan have partnered to implement and enable BHIM UPI QR code-based payments in Bhutan.

The collaboration between NIPL and RMA will enable the acceptance of the UPI-based BHIM app in Bhutan. RMA will ensure that the participating NPCI mobile app is accepted at all RMA acquired merchants in Bhutan. In addition to the acceptance of BHIM UPI, Bhutan will also issue and accept RuPay cards.

UPI is a real-time payment system that allows users to transfer funds across multiple bank accounts without revealing their bank account details to the other party.
