Microsoft will acquire Activision Blizzard to boost gaming community

US-based tech giant Microsoft has announced its intention to acquire Activision Blizzard, game development and interactive entertainment company.

The acquisition aims to boost Microsoft’s gaming business across PCs, mobiles, consoles, and cloud, and will provide building blocks for the metaverse.

The transaction will be performed in cash, at USD 95 per share, for a total acquisition cost of USD 68.7 billion.

The planned acquisition includes the rights and franchises to global popular games like Call of Duty, Diablo, Warcraft, and Candy Crush, besides the eSports activities through Major League Gaming.

According to Microsoft, the global gaming market counts for over 3 billion people and represents the fastest growing form of entertainment boosted by the pandemic. Mobile games remain the largest sector in the industry, with nearly 95% of all global players.
