Conexus Credit Union in Saskatchewan names first female CEO

Conexus Credit Union in Regina, Saskatchewan, has named Celina Philpot as its first female chief executive.

The CAD$6.8 billion-asset credit union — founded in 1937 — announced that Philpot, who according to her LinkedIn profile was most recently chief retail and brand officer for Steinbach Credit Union in Manitoba, will begin her new role on Sept. 26. She succeeds Neil Cooper, who has been interim CEO since longtime CEO Eric Dillon announced his resignation in February. Cooper will return to his prior role as the credit union's chief financial officer.

"Celina's extensive experience in the credit union system, vision for success, community focus, action orientation, commitment to credit union values and her passion for leadership and innovation align with Conexus' priorities and strategy and will be key to leading Conexus into the future and helping us improve the financial well-being of our members and community," Mark Borgares, board chair of Conexus, said in a press release Tuesday.

"As a first-generation Canadian, I understand the importance of commitment, hard work, drive and community … I integrate these qualities into my work and leadership style by challenging and empowering leaders at all levels to think differently, approach challenges creatively and inspire collective action that achieves positive results for members, the organization and the community at large", Philpot said in the release.
