Reconnecting One Step at a Time

Our Perficient teams are always looking for different ways to connect in our new normal. Recently, our Chicago colleagues got creative and thought up a new way to virtually connect while encouraging everyone to get active and healthy at the same time!

Perficient’s Miracle Miles

Our Chicago team created an event called the Perficient Virtual Fitness Challenge: “Miracle Miles” for October. Throughout the month, employees participated by running, walking, or cycling. They  tracked their earned mileage through an app called Strava. Strava is a fitness app that uses GPS tracking to log and track an individual’s workouts. For every mile that was covered in “Miracle Miles”, a dollar was donated to a Perficient approved charity. This charity was selected by the participant with the highest overall mileage at the end of the competition. The Chicago team hoped that this event would help people get outside and moving more. They had no idea how big of an impact it would have!

Over the course of six days, nineteen participants took part in 134 activities and covered a total of 604.56 miles in the Perficient Virtual Fitness Challenge. Activities included biking down Lakeshore Drive, walking in the Chicago suburbs, running in Utah, and hiking in the Smoky Mountains – to name a few! Colleagues could see what their teammates were doing in real-time as the Strava app logged all workouts. They even engaged in some friendly rivalry commentary along the way! The event was a huge success, and a total of $419.78 was raised to donate to a local charity.

And the Winner is…

To close out the competition, the team hosted a virtual award ceremony on October 30th to celebrate the winners and perform the charity selection. Chad Sparks came in first place with an impressive total of 172.26 miles covered. Second place went to Nick Kirkpatrick with 75.9 miles and in third place was Eric Arnquist with 72.14 miles. Chad chose to donate the money raised to the Lakeview Pantry, a local food pantry that he passed on many of his runs.

“On my runs, I have seen ridiculous lines at food pantries this year. Anything like that, definitely deserves some help!”

Other awards given out during the celebration included Best Route, Best Strava Comment, Most Consistent, Best Selfie, Most Creative, and Most Scenic.

Reconnecting One Step at a time

Whether they were participating in this challenge to train for an upcoming marathon or just using it as an excuse to get back into working out, the Chicago team had a blast putting on this event. It was a great way to connect the team and allowed them to work towards a common goal and help out a local charity, just in time for the holidays! Check out what Perficient as a whole is doing to help others in need this December through our Campaign for Kindness.
