Fidelity Bank to replace ATMs with Diebold Nixdorf anti-skim machines

Fidelity Bank in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, is upgrading its self-service network with ATMs from Diebold Nixdorf that feature anti-skimming readers and the ability for customers to make larger cash deposits.

Citing the growing number of its customers who prefer to bank "from a distance" with digital channels, the $3.4 billion-asset bank is implementing Diebold's DN Series ATMs and AllConnect Services. Fidelity Bank owns and operates 58 branches throughout North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

"By upgrading our older ATMs to the DN Series, we can provide customers with many new, self-service banking options and added security features," Steve McClure, senior vice president at Fidelity Bank, said in a press release.

DN Series
Diebold says its DN Series of ATMs were designed to handle many of the tasks that would take place in a bank branch.

Every new ATM will have an ActivEdge card reader, which requires the consumer to dip the card at a 90-degree angle or use the longer edge of the card to initiate a transaction. Diebold says that design shift prevents modern skimming devices from being attached to the ATM and reading a debit card's full magnetic stripe.

In addition, encrypted communication to the ATMs’ central processing unit makes the machines resistant to fraudsters' methods of capturing and tracking data. Each reader is paired with a specific ATM, thus enabling the machine to detect if a fraudster has swapped out the ActivEdge device with another card reader.

Diebold introduced its DN Series ATMs two years ago, touting them as machines designed to appeal to consumers using digital channels in other aspects of their lives. The ATMs were designed to handle many of the tasks that would take place in a bank branch, giving banks the option, in some cases, to lower the number of branch offices.

Diebold says the AllConnect Services help banks lower ATM fleet-ownership costs by monitoring and managing the ATMs and providing maintenance services, security and software deployment.

Diebold Nixdorf Advisory Services, a team of banking professionals who help financial institutions develop and implement channel transformation initiatives, worked with Fidelity Bank to analyze its network.

By assessing network statistics, the team prioritized the busiest branch locations and deployed deposit automation in clusters to keep the user experience consistent in each area.

"Our enhanced partnership with Fidelity Bank highlights our commitment to meeting the bank's unique needs by offering solutions tailored to its branch network," Octavio Marquez, senior vice president of global banking at Diebold Nixdorf, said in the release.
