Amazon Expands Amazon Home Services To Twenty New Metro Areas

Home Services

Amazon announced Monday (Nov. 14) it has expanded its Amazon Home Services into 20 new metropolitan markets around the country.

In a press release, the eCommerce giant said the new cities include Indianapolis, IN; Las Vegas, NV; San Antonio, TX; Ann Arbor, MI; Cleveland, OH; Milwaukee, WI; Boulder, CO; Raleigh, NC; Trenton, NJ; and more.

Amazon Home Services provides users with professionals for a slew of services that give upfront pricing. Local service providers opt in based on where they operate and the services they offer. Consumers purchasing things that require assembly or installation can use those professionals and pay for it at checkout. The services are backed by Amazon’s so-called “Happiness Guarantee.”

“We’re thrilled to be offering more Amazon customers access to our network of trusted pros throughout the U.S.,” said Nish Lathia, general manager of Amazon Home Services, in the press release. “Today, customers can search over 1,200 unique services from pros in over 60 professions — from house cleaning, to lawn work and beyond. The availability of Home Services in more cities means that more customers can quickly find and schedule the help they need around the house heading into the holiday season.”

According to Amazon, since Amazon Home Services launched last year, the number of professionals listed on the site has grown more than 1,500 percent. The service availability has also increased to include 50 metro areas around the country. What’s more, Amazon said the average rating is 4.7 out of five stars. The most popular services include wall mounting TVs, cleaning houses and assembling furniture.

Just like when Amazon entered a retail market, the traditional players have to respond, and the same can be said of Amazon Home Services. In this case, the retailer that is reacting is Lowe’s and its subsidiary furniture and lighting specialty brand, ATG Stores. Earlier in the year, Lowe’s announced that it had officially partnered with Porch to provide on-demand installation and assembly to customers who shop at ATG locations. While it might seem like a small move, Jay Rebello, vice president of emerging business at Lowe’s, explained that it’s a necessary step forward for hardware retailers that recognize the changing tides around them.
