Is Amazon building a drive-up grocery store in Seattle?

Amazon appears to be behind the construction of a new drive-up grocery store being built in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood, at least, according to an online report citing city permitting records.

The project was first reported on in August of this year, initially referred to as “Project X,” but GeekWire noticed that the project’s description matched the language of a permit application for a similar grocery store that Amazon has planned for San Francisco and lists the same architect.

Now, GeekWire is reporting that a post-issuance submittal for the project on file with the city of Seattle contains this project description: “storage racks insulation plans on main floor for Amazon.”

Amazon has yet to confirm that it is building the 9,759-square-foot grocery store, but here is how planning documents on file with the city of Seattle describe the project:

“When placing an online order, customers will schedule a specific 15-minute to two-hour pickup window. Peak time slots will sell out, which will help manage traffic flow within the customer parking adjacent to the building. When picking up purchased items, customers can either drive into a designated parking area with eight parking stalls where the purchased items will be delivered to their cars, or they can walk into the retail area to pick up their items. Customers will also be able to walk into the retail room to place orders on a tablet. Walk-in customers will have their products delivered to them in the retail room.”
