SunTrust to Add Operation Hope Counseling Centers

SunTrust Banks in Atlanta has agreed to open almost 200 new locations of Operation Hope's financial-counseling centers inside its branches by 2020.

The $199 billion-asset SunTrust will expand the number of locations of Operation Hope Inside from seven of its branch branches to 200, according to a Tuesday news release. The expansion will increase the number of individuals served per year at SunTrust branches from about 6,000 to 150,000.

SunTrust will install 14 Hope Inside locations this year and plans to open an additional 40 next year. The remaining branches will be phased in by 2020. SunTrust donated $950,000 to Operation Hope last year to help the group make its counseling services available online.

The nonprofit Operation Hope's financial education centers provide free consumer counseling on credit and money management, homeownership preparedness and small businesses operations.

Operation Hope's financial literacy centers have also been established inside branches at First Tennessee Bank in Nashville and Synovus Financial in Columbus, Ga.
