Google Assistant Comes To Select Sonos Speakers

Google Assistant is now available on select Sonos speakers. Sonos announced that Google Assistant has been integrated into Sonos One and Sonos Beam via a free software update, available now in the U.S. Support in the U.K., Germany, Canada, Australia, France and the Netherlands is due in July, with additional countries to follow in the coming months.

“We value freedom of choice, empowering listeners to choose what they want to listen to and how they want to control it. Adding voice, now with the Google Assistant, has made that control even easier,” said Patrick Spence, CEO of Sonos, in a press release. “We partnered with Google to build this integration from the ground up, layering in the best of the Google Assistant into the Sonos ecosystem of products and partners. Today, we’re the first company to have two voice assistants working concurrently on the same system, a major milestone for the industry. We imagine a day where we’ll have multiple voice assistants operating concurrently on the same device, and we’re committed to making that happen as soon as possible.”

Sonos will support the Google Assistant’s top first-party actions and features, including Continued Conversation, Broadcast mode and the ability to choose a different voice for the assistant. It will also include more than 1 million actions from partner products — as well as features, such as the ability to get answers, and manage tasks and plans — so that users can do everything from hearing a daily news brief, the local weather and sports scores to setting alarms and pulling up calendar appointments, and more.

In addition, Connect with Smart Home will allow users to ask Google Assistant on Sonos speakers to adjust the temperature or turn on the light, with more than 200 million devices in homes working globally with the Google Assistant now on Sonos.
