Cryptomathic signs on as PCI SSC participating organization

The company hopes its experience as a designer of secure software solutions can help PCI become 'a business enabler, rather than a simple compliance exercise.'

Cryptomathic, a provider of software security solutions, has joined the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council as a new participating organization.

The company said in a press release that it will work with the council to achieve and improve payment data security worldwide through the ongoing development of PCI security standards, including the PCI Data Security Standard; PIN transaction security requirements; and the Payment Application Data Security Standard.

As a participating organization, Cryptomathic will engage with more than 700 other organizations to help improve payment security worldwide. The company will add its voice to the standards setting process, providing feedback on draft versions of standards and supporting materials.

PCI standards require that merchants and service providers who store, process or transmit customer payment card data adhere to information security controls and processes in order to ensure data protection.

According to the release, the council relies on participants throughout the payments processing chain — merchants, service providers, payment device manufacturers, software developers, financial institutions, and processors — for assistance with standards development

"Securing financial data is central to our solution portfolio and we are most pleased to now take an active role in the PCI council and help set new industry standards," said Guillaume Forget, director of product management at Cryptomathic. "[T]hrough greater participation in the council, we look forward to contributing our expertise in designing secure software solutions more widely to render PCI a business enabler, rather than a simple compliance exercise."
