The New York Department of Financial Services has announced that Leandra English, who formerly served as CFPB Deputy Director, has joined the NYDFS executive team as Special Policy Advisor.  As our blog readers may recall, although Ms. English was appointed CFPB Acting Director by former CFPB Director Cordray upon his departure from the Bureau, President Trump appointed Mick Mulvaney to serve as Acting Director.  Ms. English then initiated unsuccessful litigation seeking a declaration that she, rather than Mr. Mulvaney, had the right to serve as Acting Director.

According to the NYDFS press release, Ms. English will report directly to the NYDFS Superintendent and manage and develop the NYDFS portfolio of policy initiatives involving consumers, financial services, and other issues.  She will also spearhead NYDFS policy development and analysis process, and help identify common regulatory trends and risks across industries.

Following her departure from the CFPB, Ms. English served as Director of Financial Services Advocacy for the Consumer Federation of America.
