Walmart Rolls Out Paid Membership Program For Unlimited Delivery

Walmart has introduced a new program called Delivery Unlimited in 1,400 of its stores. Customers who want to order groceries from Walmart without having to pay a per-delivery fee every time have the option of paying $98 a year or $12.95 a month, according to the company.

“That means shopping has never been easier or come at a better value — order your full grocery list plus anything you may need for the week ahead (like that toy you forgot for the birthday party this weekend!) from the comfort of your couch, have a personal shopper pick your items with care and have it brought right to you … all at Walmart’s everyday low prices,” Walmart said in an email.

Interested customers can sign up for the service on the Walmart website, and they don’t need an invitation to do so. Walmart is offering a 15-day free trial of the service.

There’s also the option to pay for deliveries on a case-by-case basis.

It works like this: A customer can either visit Walmart Grocery online or use the grocery app and start adding items to their cart. When they’re checking out, they’ll be able to pick a one-hour space of time that’s convenient for delivery.

Trained shoppers will then pick the freshest items, Walmart said.

“All Walmart grocery orders are backed by our freshness guarantee, and there are no hidden fees,” Walmart said in the email. “Unlike other services where a banana costs more online than it costs in the store, Walmart’s prices are the same no matter how you shop.”

The service also allows a customer to track an order from the store to the front door.

Walmart said Delivery Unlimited will be available in more than half of the country by the end of 2019. The company first announced the program in July, and in September said Delivery Unlimited would be expanding to 1,400 stores.

“We’ve been investing in our online grocery business by quickly expanding our Grocery Pickup and Delivery services,” Tom Ward, senior vice president of Digital Operations for Walmart U.S., said in September. “Delivery Unlimited is the next step in that journey. By pairing our size and scale and these services, we’re making Walmart the easiest place for to shop.”
